Abstract
Several research works on history of Buddhism in Burma have appeared in the past and are still continues to come up. However, studies on history of Theravada Buddhism in the Bagan period are continued to be scant. Most probably, this study is the first full-length study of such nature which tries to present history of Buddhism in early Burma. The main objective of this paper is to analyze and document the history of Theravada Buddhism in the early period in the upper Burma Bagan kingdom. This attempt is useful to capture the historical trajectory of Buddhism in Myanmar from an evolutionary perspective.
