Abstract
This study examines the nature and extent of inequality in the distribution of consumer expenditure in West Bengal. Using a qualitative research approach based entirely on secondary data sources, the study reviews existing literature, government reports, and survey-based research to understand patterns of consumption inequality across rural and urban areas, social groups, and regions within the state. The findings indicate that consumer expenditure inequality in West Bengal is shaped by structural economic differences, social stratification, and regional disparities. Urban areas demonstrate higher consumption levels but also greater inequality, while rural areas experience lower consumption levels and limited access to services. The study highlights the need for inclusive development policies to reduce disparities.
