Single parenthood is an increasing demographic group that often experiences financial difficulties, emotional stress, and struggles in balancing work and childcare responsibilities, which affects the ability of single parents to meet basic household needs, and along with that, single parents are struggling to provide stable financial support for their child/children. This study aimed to identify the underlying factors associated with the financial challenges experienced specifically by single parents residing in Digos City, Davao del Sur. Data were collected from 320 single-parent respondents using a validated survey questionnaire, with preliminary qualitative inputs and pilot testing. The data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to determine the underlying dimensions of financial challenges faced by single parents. The results show three key factors influencing financial challenges: Child-Rearing Financial Strain, Emotional and Psychological Stress, and Household Budget Constraints. These findings indicate that the financial challenges of single parents are not limited to income concerns alone but are also influenced by child-related responsibilities and emotional pressures for single parents. The results of this study may serve as a basis for developing programs and interventions to reduce financial strain and support the financial well-being of single-parent households.
