Abstract
This study examined the influence of employee resourcing strategy on market share of commercial banks in Nigeria, with particular focus on human resource planning and recruitment and selection as dimensions of employee resourcing strategy and market share as a measure of bank performance. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey research design. The target population comprised 521 permanent staff of six selected commercial banks operating in Akwa Ibom State, namely First Bank, United Bank for Africa, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Ecobank and First City Monument Bank. Using the Taro Yamane sampling technique, a sample size of 226 employees was determined and proportionately allocated across the selected banks and senatorial districts. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered using a five-point Likert scale. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression at a 5% level of significance. The findings revealed that human resource planning has a positive and significant influence on market share. Similarly, recruitment and selection exerted a positive and significant influence on market share. The study therefore concludes that effective employee resourcing practices are important determinants of commercial bank performance. It recommends that commercial banks strengthen strategic human resource planning, improve recruitment and selection procedures, and ensure that employee resourcing decisions are aligned with organisational objectives to enhance market penetration and competitive performance.
